Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple as the name suggests is dedicated in honour of Lord Shiva, the much revered Hindu deity. It is an ancienttemple known for its historic and mythological relevance. It is located in the town of Trimbak in the Nashik district of Maharashtra. It is located at the source of the river Godavari, the longest river in the Indian peninsula. The current temple was built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao.
This temple is steeped in mythology, folklore and history. It has one of the famous twelve jyotirlingas. The unique feature of this jyotirlinga is that it represents the three faces of three Hindu deities: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, while the other jyotirlingas represent Lord Shiva only.
